Aletta Ann Frazier, MD

Aletta Ann Frazier, MD is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology in the Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and is Chief of Cardiovascular Imaging (and Associate Chief of Thoracic Imaging) for the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology. Dr. Frazier has combined a career in clinical academic practice with collaborative radiologic-pathology research and medical illustration at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (1997-2009), the U.S. Army Borden Institute (2007-9), and the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (2010-present). For more than 20 years she has been a contributor to the world of academic medicine as an author, a lecturer and a medical illustrator. She has authored 36 primary peer-reviewed journal articles, 6 multimedia publications, and 3 book chapters. She has presented 39 original research papers at major scientific meetings in the United States including the Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging (NASCI), the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI), and the Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR). She has served as an invited lecturer or visiting professor for 28 national conferences, and she has given 66 international lectures in seven countries including Brazil, Singapore, India, Spain, Portugal, France and Austria. Dr. Frazier’s medical illustrations address a broad range of challenging concepts in pulmonary, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neurologic, pediatric, gastrointestinal and genitourinary radiology, as well as organ transplantation, oncologic staging and military battlefield medicine. Her published articles and illustrations appear in journals, textbooks, educational software, medical websites, oncologic staging manuals and surgical atlases. She has been married for 30 years to Dr. Harold Frazier, a urologic surgeon specializing in oncology and robotic surgery, and they have two wonderful sons.
