Craig Levin, PhD
Professor, Radiology
Director,
Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford
Co-Director,
Stanford Center for Innovation in In Vivo Imaging
Stanford University
Stanford, California

Dr. Levin is currently a Professor of the Department of Radiology and has courtesy appointments in the Departments of Electrical Engineering, Physics, and Bioengineering. He is a founding Member of the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS), and faculty member of the Bio-X Program, Cancer Institute, Neuroscience Institute, and Cardiovascular Institute at Stanford. He is director and PI of the NIH-National Cancer Institute (NCI) Stanford Molecular Imaging Scholars (SMIS) training program, Co-Director of the Stanford Center for Innovation in In Vivo Imaging (SCI^3), and Director of the Small Animal Imaging Core Facility for the NIH-NCI P50 ICMIC@stanford program. Dr. Levin’s research interests focus on the development of novel instrumentation and associated software algorithms for in vivo imaging of cellular and molecular signatures of disease. These new cameras efficiently image radiation emissions in the form of positrons, annihilation photons, gamma rays, and light from molecular probes developed to target molecular signals from deep within tissue of living subjects. The goals of the imaging instrumentation projects are to exploit techniques in physics and engineering to advance the sensitivity and spatial, spectral, and/or temporal resolutions. The motivation for the mathematical algorithm and computational work are to understand the physical system comprising the subject tissues, radiation transport, and imaging system, and to provide the best available image quality and quantitative accuracy. The ultimate goal is to introduce these new imaging tools into studies of molecular mechanisms and treatments of disease within living subjects.
