Peter Goldstraw, MD, FRCS
Emeritus Professor, Thoracic Surgery, National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College

Peter Goldstraw graduated from the University of Birmingham in the UK in 1968. He was appointed Consultant Thoracic surgeon at the Brompton Hospital in 1979 and has held appointments at the Whittington Hospital, University College Hospital, the Middlesex Hospital, Benenden Hospital and with the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. He is now Honorary Consultant in Thoracic Surgery to the Royal Brompton Hospital and Emeritus Professor of Thoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London, UK. He has given over 400 lectures at International and National conferences. He received the Price Thomas Gold Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2004, awarded triennially in recognition of meritorious contributions in surgery. He has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Thoracic Oncology Group in 2006 and the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland in 2010. He received honorary membership of the ESTS in 2007 and the Merit Award by the IASLC in 2007. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and 58 chapters in specialist textbooks. He has been a member of the IASLC since 1985 and has been involved in every WCLC since the 4th. He chaired the IASLC Staging Project from its inception in 1998 until the publication of the 7th edition of TNM in 2009 and was executive editor for the first edition of the Staging Handbook and Manual in Thoracic Oncology published by the IASLC/UICC/AJCC. He continues as a member of the IASLC Staging and Prognostic Factors Committee and lead the writing committee for the Group Staging aspect of the 8th edition of TNM for Lung Cancer. He was president of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer from 2011 - 2013 and a board member from 2009 - 2015.
