Venue: Radiation Biology Section, Room B29, Biomedical Physics Dept., Research Centre

Coordinator: Sara Elewisy, B.Sc., Radiation Biology Section, Biomedical Physics Dept., KFSH&RC, Extension: 32905

Workshop Faculty:
Dr. Ghazi Alsbeih, Dr. Krishna Mishra, Ms. Najla Al-Harbi, Ms. Muneera Al-Buhairi, Ms. Sara Bin Judia, Ms. Jenelyn Castro
Target Audience :
  • Radiobiologists
  • Biodosimetrists
  • Health physicists
  • Faculties
  • Physicians
  • Residents
  • Students
  • Trainees
  • Technologists and radiation workers who need practical knowledge in biodosimetry

Prerequisites:  RB-CEC entitled “Radiobiology”

Workshop Description:

The practical show-and-tell part consists of the following workshop:

    • Principle of biological dosimeters and their beneficial application in accidental radiation exposure
    • Cytogenetic assays: chromosomal aberrations, including dicentrics, micro-nuclei and gamma-H2AX foci
    • Blood samples collection, lymphocytes stimulation and irradiation
    • Slides preparation
    • Results visualization using Metafer System, aberrations scoring and data acquisition
    • Construction of the dose-response calibration curve
    • Estimating accidental radiation doses received

Learning Objectives:

  • Familiarize attendees with biodosimetry with hands-on demonstrations of methods and procedures used to estimate accidental radiation exposures
